RESOLUTION A.761(18)
"Administrations should ensure that the periodic survey of inflatable liferafts is performed at servicing stations that have demonstrated competence to service and repack rafts, maintain an adequate facility and use only properly trained personnel. In order to be approved, servicing stations should have demonstrated this capability for inflatable liferafts of each manufacturer whose liferafts they are competent to service"



Common Liferaft Incidents and Causes

1. Failure to Inflate or Delayed Inflation
  • Expired or damaged CO₂ gas cylinder
  • Blocked inflation line or leaking valve
  • Faulty or detached firing head
  • Poor maintenance or servicing negligence


2. Liferaft Inflates Upside Down
  • Incorrect packing or folding method
  • Improper placement of painter line inside the container
  • Skewed packing angle during repacking
  • Lack of incline check before sealing


3. Air Leakage After Inflation
  • Undetected pinholes or worn fabric during inspection
  • Poor patching or incomplete bonding during past repairs
  • Deterioration due to UV, aging, or chemical exposure
  • Valve malfunction or debris in sealing area


4. Deployment Failure When Launched
  • Rusted or jammed hydrostatic release unit (HRU)
  • Improperly secured container or lashings
  • Crushed or misaligned container
  • Incorrect installation on cradle


5. Missing or Expired Survival Equipment
  • Incomplete inventory during last service
  • Equipment removed but not replaced
  • Outdated flares, batteries, or rations not flagged in time


6. Canopy or Floor Damage
  • Rough handling during repacking
  • Friction or abrasion from container edges or foreign objects
  • Rodent damage in long-term storage
  • UV degradation over time


7. Painter Line Detached or Tangled
  • Improper connection inside the container
  • Incorrect length or placement during packing
  • Line caught on internal structure during deployment




What Is Included in Our Services:
  • Open the liferaft container and inspect all exterior parts
  • Inflate the raft and check all interior parts
  • Perform a working pressure test and any other mandatory tests (NAP, GI) as required by IMO Resolution A.761(18)
  • After deflation, inspect buoyancy tubes and arch roots again
  • Check loose items and replace them if outdated
  • Davit-launch liferafts are subject to overload testing every two years
  • Service records are maintained for five years
