"The objective of these Requirements for maintenance, thorough examination, operational testing, overhaul and repair of lifeboats and rescue boats, launching appliances and release gear (the Requirements) is to establish a uniform, safe and documented standard for maintenance, thorough examination, operational testing, overhaul and repair of the equipment specified in paragraph 2.1."

Common Damages and Causes
- Cracks or deformation on the hull: Impact during launching or recovery, improper handling, or aging fiberglass/GRP fatigue
- Corroded or seized hinges/latches: Saltwater exposure, poor lubrication, lack of regular maintenance
- Damaged release gear or cables: Mishandling, wear and tear, incorrect operation or adjustment
- Water leakage into compartments: Seal deterioration, cracked covers, or improper sealing
- Expired or missing survival equipment: Poor inventory checks, overlooked servicing schedule
- Damaged canopy or torn covers: UV exposure, improper storage, or abrasion during stowage
- Engine starting failure: Fuel contamination, battery failure, lack of routine testing
- Corroded arm structure or bolts: Prolonged exposure to saltwater and weather, poor protective coating
- Deformed or bent arms: Overloading or improper launching angle
- Hydraulic/oil leakage: Worn seals, cracked hoses, or lack of hydraulic maintenance
- Faulty brake system: Brake wear, misadjustment, or lack of testing
- Jammed sheaves or pulleys: Lack of lubrication, salt accumulation, or misalignment
- Limit switch failure: Electrical faults, water ingress, or mechanical damage
- Motor malfunction: Electrical issues, overload, or poor insulation

- Corroded or frayed wire rope: Overloading, improper spooling, or age-related fatigue

- Noisy or jerky operation: Gear misalignment, worn bearings, or foreign material inside the housing
